When a tragic plastic surgery experience hits the news, it’s natural for a prospective patient to feel discouraged and fearful. But it must be noted that, while there are potential risks and complications associated with every surgical procedure; the probability of a post-operative problem occurring is minimal when in the hands of a qualified plastic surgeon. What are the Dangers of Plastic Surgery?
An example of cosmetic-surgery-gone-wrong is the case of 50-year old Idell Frazer, who underwent liposuction on her back and fat transfer to her buttocks at Strax Rejuvenation in Lauderhill. Due to post-surgical complications, she died soon thereafter. Peter Mineo, the attorney for Strax Rejuvenation, was reported in the NBC 6 news article to say that the medical examiner ruled preliminarily that Frazer died from “adipose tissue embolus,” which was described as “a piece of fat tissue that causes an obstruction.”*
According to Dr. Mendieta, a liposuction and fat transfer specialist in Miami, this is an uncommon problem following the fat transfer method. With extensive experience in this specific buttock augmentation technique, the Miami plastic surgeon was discussed in the same NBC 6 news article. The writer said that NBC 6 caught up with Dr. Mendieta for a different story, reporting that he has performed 1,500 cases of butt enhancement via the fat transfer method and “ fat embolism is a very rare and serious complication, which he has yet to experience with any of his patients.”*

In recent years, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian have inspired many women to get a “bigger booty.” And while these two celebrities still remain muses for numerous patients seeking a larger derriere, there is a new public figure on the scene who recently made headlines at one of the biggest events in history – the Royal Wedding.*
Wearing a form-fitting Alexander McQueen white gown, maid-of-honor Pippa Middleton (younger sister to now “Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge”) revealed her slim physique, as well as the “perkiness” of her buttocks. The buzz soon began in the media, and it seemed as though women rushed out to find out how their butt can look like hers!
The Pippa Butt Lift Trend
In response to the hype that quickly swarmed Pippa. I was asked to provide expert insight to why her butt is gaining such attention. As reported on various news websites, I explained: “Pippa Middleton has become the new queen of the booty! She opens the doors to those who did not know you could have a small, shapely and perky backside without the large size. Patients want to be more proportionate [with] buttocks that look natural and sexy and go with the rest of their body.” *

Fat Transfer to Buttocks
One of the benefits of buttock augmentation via fat transfer, or “fat grafting,” is that the patient is able to undergo two procedures in one setting.
Liposuction is first performed on specific areas of the body that store excess fat; giving those regions a more svelte appearance.
How Does Fat Transfer Work?
With a Lipo Fat Transfer, the fat is taken and harvested. And it is then prepared for buttock injection (which will be done in predetermined points of insertion). Prior to surgery, I will have defined the patient’s buttock shape; learned about his/her aesthetic goals; and determined how much bigger he/she would like to go.
The fat transfer technique allows for accuracy; and gives me the opportunity to create an artistic piece of work. I take the whole body into consideration when enhancing the buttocks. This is in order to provide overall proportionate, flattering, and natural-looking results.*
