Eyelid Lift Surgery in Miami

The skin on the upper and lower eyelids is very thin and delicate. When collagen and elastin wane in the skin as you age, the eyelid skin can lose its elasticity; resulting in sagging, lines and wrinkles. Droopy eyelid skin and tissue can affect the appearance of the eyes; making you appear tired or older. A facial cosmetic solution is eyelid lift surgery, which can remove excess skin and fat on the upper or lower eyelids. And restore a firmer, more youthful eyelid. 4Beauty Aesthetic Institute for Plastic Surgery in Miami, FL, offers advanced options in eyelid lift surgery performed by Dr. Mendieta, our talented double board certified plastic surgeon.

What Are the Benefits of Upper Eyelid Lift Surgery?

The upper eyelid is prone to sagging skin that can cause a droopy appearance to the eye. The extra skin can hang over the eyelid, making the eyes look smaller and tired. An upper eyelid lift procedure can remove excess sagging skin and fat through a small incision in the crease of the upper eyelid.

Individuals who receive an upper eyelid lift from Dr. Mendieta may enjoy the following benefits:

  • Firmer upper eyelids
  • Eyes have a more energetic appearance
  • Fewer lines or wrinkles
  • More defined and “open” eyes
  • No more droopy eyes

An upper eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, can rejuvenate the eyes and remove excess skin that can interfere with vision. Many patients pair an upper eyelid lift with a brow lift to revitalize the entire upper eye and eyebrows for a more youthful appearance.

Am I a Candidate for a Lower Eyelid Lift Surgery?

The skin under the eye on the lower eyelid is susceptible to droopy skin and tissue. As the skin droops, it can emphasize bags under the eyes that indicate fatigue and advancing age. Some individuals can have permanent eye bags even at a younger age; making them look much older.

If you have sagging skin under the eyes or eye bags, you may be an ideal candidate for a lower eyelid lift. Patients should be in good health and willing to stop activities like smoking and taking certain medications that can increase risks during and after surgery.

How Is Cosmetic Eyelid Lift Surgery Performed?

Both lower and upper eyelid lifts use discreet incisions to remove excess skin. Patients are sedated. And Dr. Mendieta uses his skills as a top cosmetic eyelid lift surgeon to carefully remove excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids; and tighten the eyelids for a rejuvenated appearance.

In the lower eyelid, the incision is made along the lash line to hide the resulting scar. On the upper eyelid, the incision is placed on the crease to blend the scar with the natural shape of the eye. Patients can choose to have upper, lower or both eyelids lifted during their procedure.

What Is Recovery Like From Eyelid Lift Surgery?

Your eyelid lift surgery will require general anesthesia; but it is an outpatient procedure. Most people can go home the same day under the supervision of a loved one. During the first week of recovery, you may experience some swelling or bruising in the surgical area. Dr. Mendieta will recommend pain and other medications to minimize discomfort and improve healing. Patients should use cold compresses to help manage swelling and pain, and sleep with their head elevated for about two weeks.

When Will I See My Results?

In the first few weeks, you will begin to notice the results of your eyelid lift procedure. The skin will look firmer, and the eye shape will look more youthful; as the swelling and bruising dissipate. It may take several weeks to achieve the final results as the tissue and skin heal.
