Blepharoplasty Options

The technique used during blepharoplasty depends on the extent of correction required and your anatomical needs. Upper and lower blepharoplasty may be performed at the same time, if necessary.

Upper Blepharoplasty

An incision is placed along the natural crease of the eyelids. Excess tissue can be removed through this incision, and fat can be manipulated to restore the eyelids to a more youthful aesthetic.
Lower Blepharoplasty

An incision is created along the lash line. To avoid a sunken appearance, Dr. Mendieta performs lower blepharoplasty by lifting the cheeks and repositioning the fat, resulting in a smoother and tighter surface.

Recovery

During the first week following your surgery, you may experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Applying a cold compress to the eyes can help minimize these side effects, and pain can be managed with oral medication as advised by Dr. Mendieta. It is recommended to sleep in an elevated position and avoid strenuous activities for at least two weeks.

Exercise

Most patients can continue their usual exercise routine, including jogging and aerobics, three to four weeks following their blepharoplasty procedure.

Results

It may take several weeks for the eyelids to adjust to their new shape and for all side effects to resolve. The results of blepharoplasty are intended to be long lasting, but the eyes are still susceptible to the natural aging process. If the eyebrows begin to droop, causing sagging of the upper eyelids, patients may want to consider undergoing brow lift surgery.
