A droopy or saggy butt is generally the result of excess fat and poor muscle tone in the buttocks. Weak butt muscles can cause the butt to sag by weighing it down rather than giving it a more round and defined shape. In addition, fat between the muscles and the skin can contribute to floppy, low-hanging tissue that further detracts from the buttocks’ appearance.
The butt cheeks may hang down and blend with the back of the thighs, and they may even obscure the gluteal fold. Fortunately, there are a variety of ways that the backside can be improved to achieve a more uplifted, shapely butt.*
Butt Exercises*
The muscles in the butt, known as the gluteus maximus or simply “the glutes,” can be strengthened to lift and contour the butt.* Performing the following exercises is the easiest way to strengthen and tone the glutes.*
To gain noticeable improvement in your derrière, incorporate three to four sets of a minimum of 10 to 15 repetitions of these exercises into your routine at least three times per week.* For continued improvement, aim to do a few more repetitions of each exercise or add weights as you progress.*
The quintessential exercise for toning the butt, squats target all muscles in the lower body, especially the quadriceps and glutes.* For help with your squat technique and some variations, here’s how to do the perfect squat.
This increasingly popular procedure provides a rear end that looks and feels very natural for both men and women. Dr. Mendieta performs Brazilian Butt Lift surgery using his signature fat grafting technique. This includes a liposuction fat transfer. With this procedure, liposuction is used to remove unwanted excess fat from a particular area. And then, the fat is strategically injected to add volume; enhance the shape; and to lift the butt to a higher position.*
Butt Augmentation With Implants*
Buttock implant surgery reshapes and augments the butt using a solid silicone implant that cannot break or leak. This procedure is ideal for patients who are thin and do not have enough body fat for fat transfer.*
Certain exercises can help improve the appearance of the buttocks, but these efforts do not always produce the volumizing results that people want.* Fat grafting, also known as “fat transfer,” is a revolutionary procedure that removes unwanted fat using liposuction from one area of the body and transfers it to another area for augmentation, such as the buttocks.*
This procedure has the double benefit of slimming particular regions of the body while providing volume to another feature of the body.* A study titled “Gluteoplasty with Autologous Fat Tissue” published in October 2013 in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, the official Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, found that fat transfer produces highly satisfactory results for buttock augmentation.
The Study
The participants of this study were 58 women who underwent butt augmentation procedures with the fat transfer method. Liposuction was used to harvest fat from the flanks, thighs, saddlebags, and sub-gluteal region. The fat was then purified and strategically injected to add volume and definition to the buttocks while improving the shape. The patients were asked to report on their level of satisfaction with the procedure.
The Results
No major complications developed from the participants’ procedures. And all the women achieved more shapely and attractive bodies. Of the 58 participants, 57 of them (98 percent) reported being “very satisfied” with their results after the procedure. One patient was unsatisfied with her results because the injected fat was naturally resorbed by her body and did not provide the desired volume. However, after additional fat grafting was performed, she reported that she was satisfied with her results.*

In our society, having a youthful and attractive appearance can be highly beneficial – and this doesn’t only apply to women. The consensus that plastic surgery patients are all women is no longer true; due to a large increase in the number of men who have undergone plastic surgery over the last few years.
In fact, according to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, men underwent almost 1 million cosmetic procedures in 2012, and male cosmetic surgery has increased over 106 percent since 1997.
The most popular surgical procedures for men in 2012 were:
Most Common Reasons Men are Getting Plastic Surgery
The most common reasons why men undergo plastic surgery are to improve their appearance; and to stay competitive in the job market. Men often desire to look more youthful, fit, and masculine to improve many areas of their lives. And plastic surgery can help achieve these goals.
Improvements in appearance can boost self-confidence. As a result, confidence is often noticed by others and met with positive reception.* People often judge others based on their appearance, whether consciously or subconsciously. Studies have shown that more attractive people have better odds of landing a job or promotion. Men are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery to get an edge on the competition and enhance their lives.
Dr. Mendieta understands the difficulties his male patients face in regards to their appearance, and his extensive training and knowledge allow him to tailor the procedures to meet the individual needs of his patients.* He offers a variety of aesthetic procedures to improve the appearance of the chest, love handles, stomach, and butt specifically for men.*
Numerous celebrities are celebrated for their voluptuous backsides, and some have butts that are just as famous as they are. Women everywhere are doing all they can to achieve curvaceous derrières, from exercises to butt augmentation surgery. And it’s not all about size either; big behinds are great, but round, shapely butts are even more desired.*
People tend to take notice of and aspire to achieve the greatly shaped butts of those in the spotlight.
We have compiled a list of the some famous butts of our time, and here they are:
1. Jennifer Lopez
This superstar has done it all, from singing to dancing to producing and much more. “J-Lo” was one of the first celebrities to be hailed for the size and shape of her backside, and she has helped women with curvier figures feel socially accepted.*
2. Kim Kardashian
Kim is also known for a variety of trades in the entertainment field, including modeling, acting, and designing. Although it’s been heavily rumored that this celebrity underwent butt augmentation surgery, Kim has assured us that her behind is all natural. After having a daughter, Kim has worked hard to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight, but she has let everyone know that baby’s [still] got back!*
3. Beyoncé
Beyoncé is an actress and one of the best-selling music artists of all time. And Time Magazine included her in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013. Since her days as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé’s keister has remained just as “Bootylicious” as their song suggests.
4. Nicki Minaj
Rapper and singer-songwriter Nicki Minaj has had her butt talked about almost as much as her songs. People have also speculated that this celebrity’s bubble butt is the work of plastic surgery. Ms. Minaj has declared these claims to be absolutely false and that her fabulous rear end is just yet another target of gossip.
5. Serena Williams
American professional tennis player Serena Williams is number one in women’s singles tennis. Once known for her unusual and vibrant tennis wear, Serena still provides a great rear view for all her fans out there.

Dr. Mendieta Talks About the Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure
Increasing numbers of people are turning to plastic surgery to enhance their appearance, but some worry that scars may detract from their new and improved look. Incisions are often necessary to access the underlying tissue and make alterations or add implants, making scarring an inevitable part of most surgeries.* However, new research and technologies are allowing for scar treatment that makes scars virtually invisible.
Here are the Do’s and Don’ts of Scar Treatment.*
Don’t: Apply Hydrogen Peroxide or Vitamin E*
While hydrogen peroxide has been used as a ‘go-to’ for wound treatment, research has revealed that it actually harms the new skin cells that are trying to grow.* A study in the official publication for the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery also found that the topical application of Vitamin E does not improve, but can actually be detrimental, to the cosmetic appearance of scars.*
Don’t: Go in the Sun*
The sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays increase healing time, and can cause dark discolorations.* If you must go in the sun, cover your scars with clothing; or wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen (with an SPF of 15 or more).*
Do: Apply Antibiotic Ointment*
An antibiotic ointment, such as Neosporin, will prevent infections that can hinder healing; and keep the wound moist to aid healing.*
Do: Cover a Wound*
A bandage will provide a moist environment. This will help to avoid a hard scab from forming and obstructing the formation of new tissue.*
Do: Put Pressure on the Wound*
Compression garments, bandages, and silicone sheeting (that put pressure on the wound) will help it to become level with the rest of the skin; and prevent a raised scar.*
Do: Talk to Your Doctor*
If you still have noticeable scarring, ask your doctor about intralesional steroids, oral antihistamines, and hydrogel sheeting to further improve scars. There are also a variety of topical medicines that can be prescribed to improve scars. New technologies have allowed for the development of fractional and pulsed-light laser treatments. These procedures can dramatically reduce the appearance of both new and old scars as well.*
Do: Visit Dr. Mendieta for Your Surgeries*
For those concerned with the appearance of scars, Dr. Mendieta offers a variety of procedures that will result in little to no scarring.* Dr. Mendieta commonly performs breast augmentation using the transumbilical method (TUBA), which utilizes an incision within the navel and results in no visible scarring.* Fat grafting can also provide enhancement to the buttocks with minimal scars in that area.* For all of his procedures, Dr. Mendieta attempts to place any necessary incisions in inconspicuous locations. Most scars will fade over time.*
