Certain exercises can help improve the appearance of the buttocks, but these efforts do not always produce the volumizing results that people want.* Fat grafting, also known as “fat transfer,” is a revolutionary procedure that removes unwanted fat using liposuction from one area of the body and transfers it to another area for augmentation, such as the buttocks.*
This procedure has the double benefit of slimming particular regions of the body while providing volume to another feature of the body.* A study titled “Gluteoplasty with Autologous Fat Tissue” published in October 2013 in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, the official Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, found that fat transfer produces highly satisfactory results for buttock augmentation.
The Study
The participants of this study were 58 women who underwent butt augmentation procedures with the fat transfer method. Liposuction was used to harvest fat from the flanks, thighs, saddlebags, and sub-gluteal region. The fat was then purified and strategically injected to add volume and definition to the buttocks while improving the shape. The patients were asked to report on their level of satisfaction with the procedure.
The Results
No major complications developed from the participants’ procedures. And all the women achieved more shapely and attractive bodies. Of the 58 participants, 57 of them (98 percent) reported being “very satisfied” with their results after the procedure. One patient was unsatisfied with her results because the injected fat was naturally resorbed by her body and did not provide the desired volume. However, after additional fat grafting was performed, she reported that she was satisfied with her results.*
